Robertson's Two Goals Lifts Women's Soccer Over Brevard
SALISBURY, NC -- Junior Sydney Robertson (Mooresville, NC/Lake Norman HS) scored a pair of goals as host Catawba topped Brevard 2-0 in South Atlantic Conference women’s soccer action on Saturday night at Frock Field. The Catawba Indians improve to 7-7-3 overall and 3-4-2 in the SAC, while the Tornados fall to 3-13-1 and 1-8. The Lady Indians finished in a tie for fifth place in the league standings and should be matched up with third-seeded Wingate in the opening round of the SAC Tournament on Tuesday.
Robertson broke the scoreless deadlock just before the half. A corner kick by Juliana Conte (Hampton, Ontario, CANADA/Trinity Catholic) was headed toward the goal by Laela Ghorbani (Highlands Ranch, CO/Highlands Ranch HS) and Robertson was able to knock home the goal in a crowd at the 42:24 mark.
The Lady Indians went up two goals just after the break. Alyssa Retundie (Mooresville, NC/Lake Norman HS) delivered a cross to an unmarked Robertson at the penalty spot and she tucked a shot inside the left post.
Catawba held a decisive 16-1 edge in shots with each team taking two corners. Crissy Moran (Franklin County, VA) had five saves in a half of action for the Tornados. Brittany Webster (Stafford, VA) turned away three shots and Jordan Box (Hoover, AL) recorded one save. Lindsay Webster (Hopkinton, MA/Hopkinton HS) played 76 minutes in goal for Catawba and stopped the lone Tornado attempt. Kailey Johnson (Hampstead, NC/Topsail HS) was untested in combining for the shutout.
