SALISBURY, NC -- Catawba got 22 points from Milica Ivanovic (Belgrade, SERBIA/Sports High/Bethel) and cruised to a 77-45 win over visiting Brevard in South Atlantic Conference women’s basketball action on Wednesday night at Goodman Gym.  The Catawba Indians win for the seventh straight time, improving to 11-4 overall and 5-0 in the SAC.  The Tornados fall to 5-10 and 1-4.

Ivanovic canned five three-pointers and went 8-of-15 from the field in scoring her game-high.  Elizabeth Merritt (Lexington, NC/E. Davidson HS) followed with 13 points, while Dana Hicks (York, SC/Gaston Day) pulled down 13 rebounds.  Lindsay Brendle (High Point, NC) was the lone Tornado in double figures with 16 points.

Catawba, which had struggled shooting in its last four wins, started strong, hitting on 52% in the opening half to build a 39-20 cushion.  The Lady Indians never trailed after scoring the first eight points, which included three-pointers by Anna Dellapenta (Thomasville, NC/E. Davidson HS/Elon) and Kisha Long (Dallas, NC/Gaston Day).

Brevard trailed just 20-18 with 8:30 left in the first half when Catawba began to pull away.  A 13-0 run that was capped on a layup by Ivanovic pushed the edge to 33-18.  Michaela Watkins (Bostic, NC) stopped the surge with just over two minutes to go in the half, but that was the only points for the Tornados over the last eight minutes.

Catawba stretched its lead to 53-27 after a three-pointer by Ivanovic with 13:30 left.  Brendle hit a free throw to close the gap to 19, but the Lady Indians scored the next 17 points to go up 74-38 in the closing minutes.

Brevard entered as the league’s top shooting team at 47%, but managed to hit on just 31% in the loss.  Catawba finished at 46%, while holding a 49-28 edge on the glass.  The Lady Indians made 10 three-pointers.
