WINGATE, NC -- Wingate shot nearly 60% and posted a 79-64 win over visiting Catawba in South Atlantic Conference men’s basketball action on Wednesday night at Cuddy Arena. The Bulldogs got 25 points from Odell Turner and improved to 11-8 overall and 6-5 in the SAC. The Catawba Indians fall to 8-11 and 4-7.
Turner canned 11-of-15 shots to lead the Bulldogs. Paidrick Matilus and Quan Alexander also reached double figures with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Wingate shot 57.7% for the game and went 7-of-13 from behind the arc.

The first erased the five-point deficit and was capped with a three-pointer by Robert Carpenter for a 27-19 Bulldog lead. Catawba rallied back to tie the game at 30-all on a pair of free throws by Justin Huntley (Mooresville, NC/Mooresville HS), but Wingate scored the final 10 points of the half, including a pair of three-pointers by Nick Ross, to go up 40-30 at the break.
Wingate went up by 16 early in the second half and did not allow the Indians closer than eight points the rest of the way. Moore brought Catawba within single digits three times midway through the half, but each time the Bulldogs answered. Turner pushed the lead its largest at 77-58 with 1:42 remaining.
