Catawba's Athletic Training Hall of Fame to Induct Inaugural Class on Feb. 12

Six inaugural members will be inducted into the Catawba College Athletic Training Hall of Fame on Feb. 12. The induction of the Class of 2011 will take place between noon and 2 p.m. in the Frank Meyer's Gymnasium of the Abernethy Physical Education Center on campus.

The inductees are (with graduation year): Gary Blabon '91 of Salisbury; Dr. Dan Burks '93 of Salisbury; Chris Felix '92 of Audubon, N.J.; Dr. Jolene Henning '96 of Greensboro; Scott McCall '93 of Charlotte; and Holly Stump '98 of Durham.

Following are the achievements of this year's inductees:

Gary Blabon '91

  • Attended Catawba from 1987-1991
  • Awarded the Most Outstanding Athletic Training Student Award in 1991
  • Clinical Athletic Trainer at Stewart Physical Therapy and at Salisbury Orthopedic Associates in Salisbury from 1991-2000
  • Practice Manager for Chattanooga Bone & Joint Clinic in Chattanooga, Tenn., from 2000-2005
  • Currently CEO for RoMedical Care in Salisbury
  • President of Catawba College Chiefs Club 2010-2011 

Dr. Dan Burks '93

  • Attended Catawba from 1989-1993
  • Earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Therapy from Winston-Salem State University, Winston-Salem in 1998
  • Earned a Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Boston University, Boston, Mass., in 2005
  • Employed as Director of Sports Medicine for Stewart Physical Therapy in Salisbury from 1994-2001
  • Currently the Rehabilitation Director for RoMedical Care, Inc. & Proformance Physical Therapy in Salisbury

Chris Felix '92

  • Attended Catawba from 1988-1992
  • Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer at Temple University in Philadelphia, Pa., from 1992-1994
  • Head Athletic Trainer for High Desert Mavericks High Single A Baseball Club in Adelanto, Calif., in 1994
  • Head Athletic Trainer for the Binghamton Rangers AHL Hockey Team in Binghamton, N.Y., from 1994-1996
  • Head Athletic Trainer for the Philadelphia Phantoms AHL Hockey Team in Philadelphia, Pa., from 1996-2004
  • Currently Senior Territory Sales Manager for Globus Medical, Inc. in Audubon, Pa. 


Dr. Jolene Henning '96

  • Attended Catawba from 1992-1996
  • Completed Master's degree from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Va., in 1998
  • Completed Doctorate degree from Ball State University in Muncie, Ind., in 2002
  • Assistant Athletic Trainer at Campbell University in Buies Creek, N.C., 1998-2000
  • Currently Associate Professor and Director of the Master's Athletic Training Education Program for the University of North Carolina at Greensboro 

 

Scott McCall '93

  • Attended Catawba from 1989-1993
  • Selected as Catawba College's Most Outstanding Athletic Training Student in1992 and 1993
  • Completed Master's of Science degree in Athletic Training from the University of Arizona, Tucson, Ariz., in 1995
  • Previously employed as Head Athletic Trainer at Johnson C. Smith University, Charlotte, N.C. from 1995-2001 and Pfeiffer University, Misenheimer, N.C., from 2001-2003
  • Rehabilitation Liaison for Carolinas HealthCare System, Charlotte, N.C., from 2003-2006
  • Currently Product Manager for U.S. Marketing & Director of Training and Education for BSN Medical, Inc., Charlotte, N.C.

 

Holly Stump '98

  • Attended Catawba from 1994-1998
  • Completed Master's of Science degree at Arizona School of Health Sciences in Phoenix, Ariz., in 2000
  • Completed M.B.A. at UNC Charlotte in 2005
  • Head Athletic Trainer at Grand Canyon University, Phoenix, Ariz., from 1999-2001
  • Athletic Training Education Program Director for Catawba College from 2001-2003
  • Athletic Trainer for Carolinas HealthCare System, Charlotte, N.C., from 2005-present
  • Currently enrolled in the Duke University Physician Assistant Program, Durham, N.C.
