Reid Named SAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week; Leads Indians Into Tourney Matchup Wednesday at Anderson

ROCK HILL, SC -- Catawba's Dominick Reid (Charlotte, NC/Cannon School) has been named the final South Atlantic Conference men's basketball Player of the Week for 2010-11.  It covers the week ending February 27 and was announced by the league office on Monday.  Reid was key in the final push for the league tournament which will see the #7-seeded Indians travel to Anderson on Wednesday.

Reid, a senior guard, led Catawba to a pair of league wins last week to secure the Indians' spot in the SAC Tournament.  At Mars Hill in a must-win game, Reid scored a career-high 32 points and dished out nine assists.  Playing the entire 40 minutes, the point guard did not commit a turnover. He scored 22 of his career-high outing in the second half.

Reid canned another six three-pointers in the win over Newberry, finishing with 25 points. Reid snapped an 82-all tie with a pair of free throws then hit a clutch three-pointer to push the lead to 87-82 with a minute to go.  For the week, Reid averaged 28.5 points, 6.0 assists and 5.5 rebounds.

Catawba will be seeking its fifth-straight trip to the tournament final, winning the title in 2009 and 2010.  The Indians did win the tournament back in 2004 as the seventh seed, the lowest to ever claim the championship.

Quarterfinal winners advance to the semifinals, which will be held at Catawba Valley Community College in Hickory, N.C. on Saturday, March 5. The men’s semifinals will be at 5:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. The Lincoln Memorial vs. Carson-Newman winner will face the Newberry vs. Tusculum winner at 5:30 p.m. The Anderson vs. Catawba winner will face the Wingate vs. Brevard winner at 8 p.m.  The championship game is on Sunday, March 6 at 4 p.m.  The tournament winner will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Division II playoffs.

Tickets for quarterfinal games are $6 for adults, $3 for children, students and college students with ID. Tickets for semifinal and championship rounds are $10 for adults and $5 for children, students and college students with ID.  Fans showing the Food Lion MVP card can save $1 off the price of an adult ticket for the quarterfinals ($5 with Food Lion MVP card) and the semifinals and championship ($9 with Food Lion MVP card).
