Baseball Drops 9-1 Decision at Pfeiffer
MISENHEIMER, NC -- Host Pfeiffer rapped out a dozen hits and knocked off 23rd-ranked Catawba 9-1 in baseball action on Wednesday afternoon at Ferebee Field. The Falcons improve to 9-10, while the Catawba Indians fall to 12-4.
Pfeiffer picked up a run in the first on a two-out single by Jon Gray. The Falcons got a leadoff homer from Matt Wade and a RBI ground out by Jacob Yates in the second to extend the lead to 3-0.
Catawba pulled one run back in the fourth on a triple by Chris Dula (Troutman, NC/S. Iredell HS), but Pfeiffer answered with a four spot to break the game open. A single by Wade and two walks loaded the bases with no out. John Tuttle (Kannapolis, NC/A.L. Brown HS) nearly got out of the jam after a double-play lineout, but two walks were followed by a three-run double by Preston Lyon to give the Falcons a 7-1 edge.
Dula led Catawba at the plate, collecting three hits, including a double and a triple. Austin Moyer (Greensboro, NC/SE Guilford HS/USC Upstate) had two hits. Yates, Wade and Tyler Smith each had two hits for Pfeiffer. Lyon drove in three, while Yates and Gray each had two RBI.
