Women's Soccer moves into region rankings

The Catawba College women’s soccer team has entered the NSCAA Southeast Region rankings for the first team this season. Buoyed by their 5-0 start, the Lady Indians are rated seventh in the this week’s poll. Five of the 10 ranked teams are members of the South Atlantic Conference. Defense, which nearly helped Catawba to a championship last season, has again been a strong point as the Lady Indians have allowed just a single goal in five matches. Offensively, Catawba has almost equaled the production of last season. In its 16 matches last year, Catawba scored only 21 goals, while this season the team has 16 in the first five matches. Catawba’s ranking will be tested in its next two match, both on the road. Catawba will face Tusculum on Friday and then travel to Francis Marion next Tuesday. Both teams are among the top five in the region. SOUTHEAST REGION POLL 1. Belmont Abbey 3-0 2. Presbyterian 4-0 3. Tusculum 2-3 4. North Florida 4-1-1 5. Francis Marion 5-1 6. Wingate 5-0 7.
