Lomascolo Repeats as SAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week
ROCK HILL, SC -- Catawba's Nick Lomascolo (Mooresville, NC/Lake Norman HS) repeated as the South Atlantic Conference Pitcher of the Week, announce by the league office on Monday for the week ending March 13. Carson-Newman’s Jonathan Dalton and Wingate’s Casey Allison shared the Player of the Week honor.
Lomascolo earned a save and a win in two appearances last week, while not allowing a run over eight and two-thirds innings of work. He struck out the side while walking one in posting the save in a 4-2 win over No. 17 USC Aiken in a mid-week contest then shutout Newberry for seven and two-thirds innings in his league start on Friday in the 5-0 victory. The sophomore surrendered just four hits, walked four and fanned nine. For the week, Lomsacolo gave up just four hits and recorded a dozen strikeouts. He improved to 4-1 on the season and lowered his ERA to 2.93.
Dalton, a senior outfielder from Rutledge, TN, batted .450 (9-for-20) with three doubles, three home runs and 10 RBIs for the Eagles. He also scored seven runs and had a slugging percentage of 1.050. Allison, a junior outfielder from Horse Shoe, NC, help lead Wingate to a 4-1 week that included a SAC sweep over Lenoir-Rhyne. His week was highlighted with a go-ahead two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth in Saturday's seven-inning game. He finished his week by going four-for-four with a double, homer, four RBI and run scored to help Wingate overcome a four-run deficit.
