Women's Tennis Pulls Out 5-4 Win Over Carson-Newman
SALISBURY, NC -- Catawba pulled out a 5-4 win over visiting Carson-Newman in South Atlantic Conference women’s tennis action on Friday afternoon at the Johnson Tennis Center. The Catawba Indians improve to 10-8 overall and 2-2 in the SAC, while the Lady Eagles fall to 4-4 and 0-2.
Catawba took a 3-0 lead after sweeping the doubles, but needed a three-set singles win from freshman Ally Prior (Raleigh, NC/Wakefield HS) at the #5 slot to secure the win. Prior had helped the Lady Indians to the 3-0 lead when she teamed with partner Steffi Cook (Alpharetta, GA/Milton HS) to grab a win at #2 doubles, 7-5 in a tiebreaker.
Jennifer Dameron (Siler City, NC/Jordan-Matthews HS) also won in both doubles and singles for Catawba. Taryn Cappadona, Stefy Stand and Katie Brown won in singles for Carson-Newman to get the Lady Eagles within 4-3 before Prior’s win. Stephanie Goode claimed the last point as Cook retired with cramps.
