SALISBURY, NC -- Catawba swept a South Atlantic Conference baseball doubleheader from visiting Brevard on Saturday afternoon at Newman Park. The 23rd-ranked Catawba Indians won by the scores of 16-2 and 8-5 to improve to 25-7 overall and 15-3 in the SAC. The Tornados fall to 11-20 and 3-14.
The Indians pounded out 20 hits in the opener to back solid pitching from JJ Jankowski (McMurray, PA/Peters Township HS/Miami,OH). Jankowski improved to 5-1 as he allowed just one run off four hits over six innings. He walked none and struck out seven.
Julio Zubillaga (China Grove, NC/Carson HS) and Josh Hohn (Greensboro, NC/S. Guilford HS/N. Greenville) combined for nine RBI in the opener. Hohn had a double and triple, while Zubillaga went 3-for-3 and had a grand slam.
Leading 2-1, Catawba broke the game open by scoring 13 runs over the middle three frames. Zubillaga put the Indians up 2-1 with a single in the second then Hohn keyed a five-run fourth with a two-run double. Hohn added a two-run triple in the fifth then Zubillaga capped a five-run sixth with his grand slam.

Jordan Kuhn (Lewis Center, OH/Olentangy HS) went 3-for-3 and collected four RBI to spark the Indians to the sweep. His RBI double in the fifth snapped a 5-5 tie and put Catawba on top for good. Zubillaga singled home Kuhn later in the inning and Garrett Furr (Gold Hill, NC/Mt. Pleasant HS) had a single in the sixth for an insurance run,
Wil Huneycutt (Locust, NC/W. Stanly HS) kept Brevard off the board over the final two innings to pick up his fourth save. Austin Moyer (Greensboro, NC/SE Guilford HS/USC Upstate) got the win to improve to 5-2, allowing five runs off eight hits with seven strikeouts over five innings.
After Brevard scored a run in the opening inning for the third straight game, Catawba answered right back. Bostian led off with a double and Hohn singled him in. Kuhn doubled home two for a 3-1 lead after an inning.
The Tornados came back to go on top 4-3 in the third. Zach Merrikan (Hudson, NC) singled home two to put Brevard on top. Catawba tied the game on a wild pitch then Kuhn singled home a run as the Indians reclaimed the lead 5-4 after three frames.
