Cline's Runner-Up Finish Helps Men's Golf to Fourth Place at SAC Championships
CONOVER, N.C. -- Catawba finished fourth at the 2011 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Men’s Golf Championships which concluded on Tuesday at the 6,903-yar, par-72 Rock Barn Golf & Spa. Brad Cline (Thomasville, NC/E. Davidson HS/UNCG) made a bit for medalist honors, but finished second, two shots back.
Newberry held off a late final round surge by Tusculum to claim the team title. After opening with a 287 on Monday’s opening round the Wolves held a comfortable lead after two rounds. Tusculum came on strong with a final round 291, but came up five shots short. Newberry finished with a 900 total to Tusculum’s 905. Catawba was fourth with a three-round score of 927.
A late double-bogey thwarted Cline’s bid for the top individual spot. He had rounds of 73-73-75 to finish at 221. Newberry’s Daniel Stanley shot even-par for the final round and totaled 219. Cline earned first team All-SAC Tournament honors.
