FOREST CITY, NC -- Catawba stayed alive at the 2011 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Baseball Tournament with a 12-0 shutout over fifth-seeded Carson-Newman in an elimination game on Thursday afternoon at McNair Field.  JJ Jankowski (McMurray, PA/Peters Township HS/Miami,OH) tossed seven innings of two-hit ball, while Chris Dula (Troutman, NC/S. Iredell HS) had five hits to help the top-seeded Catawba Indians improve to 37-9.  The Indians, ranked 13th in NCAA II, face another elimination game on Friday at 3:45 pm.  The Eagles fall to 20-28.

Catawba’s bats came alive in the middle innings and the Indians went on to collect 16 hits in the win.  The game was scoreless into the fourth when Julio Zubillaga (China Grove, NC/Carson HS) drove in a pair of runs on a bases-loaded double to jump-start the offense.  Austin Moyer (Greensboro, NC/SE Guilford HS/USC Upstate) hit a two-run homer in the fifth and Garrett Furr (Gold Hill, NC/Mt. Pleasant HS) added a two-run shot in the sixth as Catawba stretched the lead to 7-0.

Jankowski allowed a one-out double in the first then hit a batter before retiring 18 in a row until a one-out double by Jonathan Dalton in the seventh.  The junior improved to 8-1, walking none and striking out six.

Dula, who was also hit by a pitch, capped his 5-for-5 day with a two-run home run in the ninth.  He had two doubles, drove in three and scored four runs.  Zubillaga knocked in three runs on a pair of hits, while Brett Underwood (Greensboro, NC/SW Guilford HS) went 3-for-4.

Dalton had two of the five hits for Carson-Newman.
