Lacrosse Ends Season With Loss to #4 Limestone
GAFFNEY, SC -- Host Limestone, ranked fourth in NCAA II, cruised to a 19-3 win over 11th-ranked Catawba in men’s lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon at Saints Field. Riley Loewen and Shayne Jackson each scored five goals to help the Saints improve to 14-1. The Catawba Indians wrap up their season at 12-4.
Limestone took a 5-0 lead early in the second quarter before the Indians got on the board on a tally from Davis Hughes (Windermere, FL/W. Orange HS) with 4:08 left in the half. That would be as close as Catawba would be as the Saints scored twice before the break then added eighth straight goals to build a 15-1 advantage.
Jackson had four of the goals in the 10-goal spurt. Jackson and Loewen handed out four assists apiece. Catawba also got goals from Tom Cullop (New Windsor, MD/S. Carroll HS) and Trevor Sieracki (Austin, TX/Anderson HS).
Limestone outshot Catawba 58-15 and won 16-of-25 face-offs. Michael Pecchia (Coquitlam, BC, CANADA/Heritage Woods) played all but a minute in the pipes for the Indians and recorded 19 saves.
