Women's Soccer Nipped By a Goal Against Palm Beach
ST. AUGUSTINE, FL -- The Catawba women’s soccer team wrapped up their stay in Florida with a 2-1 loss to Palm Beach Atlantic on Saturday afternoon at Saints Field. The defeat drops Catawba to 0-2 on the young season.
Senior midfielder Alyssa Retundie (Mooresville, NC/Lake Norman HS) equalized in the 19th minute off a rebound to make it one apiece. Palm Beach Atlantic secured the game-winner in the 63rd minute when Katie Runyan sent a deflection off a blocked shot into the back of the Catwba net.
Catawba outshot their opponents 18-10, bettered them 7-2 in corner kicks, but still came up short on the scoreboard.
Freshman midfielder Brittany Gibbons (Woodleaf, NC/W.Rowan HS) led the team in shots with five along side Retundie’s four.
The Lady Indians will host Queens in their 2011 home-opener on Wednesday, September 7 at 7:00pm.
