Women's Soccer Drops Overtime Decision to Armstrong Atlantic
SALISBURY, NC -- The Catawba women’s soccer team dropped a 3-1 non-conference match in overtime to Peach Belt conference foe Armstrong Atlantic State Wednessday night at Frock Field. With the loss the Lady Indians fall to 1-4 and the Pirates improve to 3-1 for the season.
Catawba had a two-goal margin for much of the first half on the strength of early goals by Brittany Gibbons (Woodleaf, NC/W.Rowan HS) and Alyssa Retundie (Mooresville, NC/Lake Norman HS).
Erin Holt scored just before halftime for Armstrong to close within one goal. Nadima Skeff would pull the Pirates even in the 83rd minute with a straight-ahead shot from 20 yards out.
In the second overtime session, Armstrong would secure the match on a Kristina Pascutti shot past stretched out Catawba keeper Lindsey Webster (Hopkinton,MA/Hopkinton HS).
Athena Bless (Asheboro, NC/SW Randolph HS) and Kristen Girardi (Asheville, NC/N.Buncombe/W. Carolina) recorded one assist each for the Lady Indians. Webster wound up with eight saves.
Catawba hits the road for a non-conference game at Pfeiffer University on Saturday, Sept. 17.
