Wright Runs Football to Win Over UNC Pembroke
SALISBURY, NC -- Catawba got 180 yards rushing from Josh Wright (Raeford, NC/Hoke Co. HS/W. The Catawba Indians win for the second straight week and improve to 2-3. The Braves fall to 3-2.
Wright capped his career-high performance with a 64-yard jaunt midway through the fourth quarter to stake Catawba to a 42-17 lead. The Braves pulled a pair of scores back in the final five minutes, but Catawba recovered an onside kick attempt with just over two minutes remaining and ran out the clock.
UNC Pembroke amassed 538 total yards, 362 yards through the air, as Luke Charles Murphy, NC) went 21-of-33 passing with four touchdowns. The Braves had opened the scoring on a 42-yard field goal from Taylor Baskett (Fayetteville, NC) at the 11:49 mark of the first quarter. Catawba answered right back as Omar Craig (Rock Hill, NC/Northwestern HS/Victor Valley CC) caught a swing pass and ran it in for a 10-yard score. Hamilton then turned a momentum building play as he blocked a punt that Mario Washington (High Point, NC/Ragsdale HS) ran in from 14 yards away for a 14-3 edge with 10:08 to go in the half.
Hamilton added to the lead when he leaped at the back of the end zone to pull in a pass from Charest to give the Indians a 21-3 advantage. The Tribe defense came up big at the end of the half when Cory Johnson (Fayetteville, NC/Britt HS) stood up Daniels on a fourth-and-one at the goal line.
Charest plowed in from the one at the 7:30 mark of the third quarter as Catawba moved ahead 28-3. Daniels helped answer that score as he scored on a 60-yard screen pass. Wright tallied the first of his scores early in the fourth to make the score 35-9.
