Women's Soccer Claims Road Win Over Wolves
NEWBERRY, SC -- Junior forward Amy Iwanicki (Calgary, ALB, CANADA/St. Francis HS) scored her first goal of the season in helping Catawba capture its second consecutive South Atlantic Conference victory 2-0 versus Newberry Wednesday afternoon at the Newberry Soccer Field. The Lady Indians improve to 3-8 overall and 2-3 in the SAC, as Newberry falls to 7-5 and 3-3.
Catawba struck in the 26th minute when Iwanicki’s shot from just outside the 18-yard line first hit the crossbar and then into the net for a 1-0 advantage. Erinn Wescoat (Egg Harbor, NJ/Absegami HS) netted her fourth goal of the season just over two minutes into the second half from 20 yards out off a Newberry turnover.
The Lady Indian defense posted its second shut-out in as many games as senior goalkeeper Lindsay Webster (Hopkinton, MA/Hopkinton HS) collected three saves to support the cause.
Catawba commutes to Harrogate, TN for a 1:00 pm match with Lincoln Memorial University on Saturday, Oct. 15.
