Women's Soccer Wins Season Finale at Brevard
BREVARD, NC -- The Lady Indians of Catawba ended the regular-season on a high note with a 2-1 South Atlantic Conference victory over Brevard Saturday afternoon at the Brevard College Soccer Field. Catawba ups its record to 6-10 overall and 4-5 in the SAC, while the Tornados drop to 3-14 and 0-9.
In an exciting four-minute segment of the first half, all of the game’s goals were scored.
The Lady Indians found the back of the net in the 33rd minute as Juliana Conte (Hampton, ONT, CANADA/Holy Trinity Catholic HS) ran into a cross from Sydney Robertson (Mooresville, NC/Lake Norman HS) and put it past Tornado goalkeeper Jordan Box for the one goal advantage.
It took all of 41 seconds for Catawba to double that lead as Robertson struck again with a corner kick that Athena Bless (Asheboro, NC/SW Randolph HS) volleyed in from close range.
Brevard trimmed the lead in half in the 37th minute on a goal from Bailey Varley on a through ball that snuck past the Lady Indian defense.
Catawba poured in 17 shots, 13 on goal, which produced several goal-scoring opportunities that fell to the wayside.
Lindsay Webster (Hopkinton, MA/Hopkinton HS) had six denials of seven Tornado shots on goal.
The Lady Indians travel to Wingate (13-3, 8-1) for a first-round SAC Tournament game on Wednesday, Nov. 2 at 7:00 pm. The winner will take on either Lincoln Memorial or Newberry in a semifinal on Friday, Nov. 4 in Rock Hill, SC.
