BREVARD, NC – Catawba claimed a pair of volleyball wins on Saturday afternoon at Boshamer Gym on the campus of Brevard College.  The Catawba Indians claimed a South Atlantic Conference victory with a sweep of Brevard then knocked off Limestone in four sets.  The Lady Indians improve to 18-6 overall and 12-4 in the SAC.

In the opening match, the conference affair with host Brevard, the Lady Indians cruised to the win.  The Lady Indians recorded the sweep by the scores of 25-11, 25-21 and 25-10.  Kaitlyn Whitmer (Ferrum, VA/Franklin Co. HS) finished with 10 kills and 12 digs to pace Catawba.  Shay Meeks (Kings Mountain, NC/Kings Mountain HS) followed with Jordan Raye (Boonville, NC/Starmount HS) dished out 20 assists and collected 16 digs.

Catawba scored the first six points of the opening set and led 10-1 following a kill from Meeks.  Raye, Meeks and Savannah Tomlinson (Rensenburg, NY/Westhampton Beach HS/UNCG) delivered kills as the lead moved to 24-9.  The set would end on an error by the Tornados.

A kill from Meeks had Catawba up 9-4 in set two, but Brevard hung close, pulling within 13-12 following a kill by Ashlie Morrison.  Meeks had two kills and a block to help the Lady Indians go up 19-14.  Three straight points, two coming on kills from Morrison, drew the Tornados within 22-20, but three errors gave Catawba its final points of the sets.

Another strong start in the third set, capped by a kill from Meeks and an ace by Ashley Paolozzi (Laurinburg, NC/Scotland Co. HS), gave Catawba an 8-2 edge.   An ace by Meeks and two kills from Whitmer pushed the advantage to 13-3.  It was 18-5 after an ace by Raye and Emily Richardson (Salem, VA/Salem HS) would kill off the final point of the match.

Catawba rallied from a set down to beat Limestone in four sets in match two on the day.  The Lady Indians picked up a 27-29, 25-16, 25-15 and 25-14.  Richardson had 11 kills and three blocks, while Raye handed out 41 assists with 10 kills and two blocks.

A kill and an ace by Carson Brewer (Raleigh, NC/Middle Creek HS/Cape Fear CC) gave the Lady Indians a little margin in the opening set at 12-9.  Haley Lanier (Burgaw, NC/Pender Co. HS) recorded consecutive kills to start a 4-1 run that moved the score to 16-11.  Limestone rallied back from a 17-12 deficit and took the lead at 23-22 on an ace from Holli Dawson.  Each team would have several set points before two kills from Jordan Preville capped a three-point run by Limestone to take the set.

Seven straight points in the middle of set two gave Catawba a 17-12 edge.  Meeks had two kills in the run with Taylor Doss (Boonville, NC/Starmount HS) adding a block.  After a kill by Dawson, Catawba scored six of the next seven points to go up 23-14.  Richardson had two kills and a block in the run then killed off the set point.

Catawba jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the third set and led comfortably throughout.  A kill from Raye and an ace from Paolozzi helped the Lady Indians move out from a 14-12 edge.  Raye capped the set with a kill as Catawba ran off the final six points.

Tomlinson had a block and a kill as Catawba grabbed a 4-1 lead to open the fourth set.  A kill from Meeks had the Lady Indians up 14-9.  A six-point run that included an ace by Leah Ryan (Westborough, MA/Westborough HS) pushed the margin to 23-12 and a combo block from Raye and Doss ended the match.
