Harrison sparks Volleyball to sweep over UNC-Pembroke

SALISBURY, NC Catawba College outlasted visiting UNC-Pembroke in three hard-fought games in volleyball action on Tuesday night at Goodman Gym. Sophomore Crissi Harrison (Hickory, NC) led Catawba with 14 kills, five blocks and a pair of aces in the 31-29, 30-23 and 30-27 win. The Lady Indians improve to 13-6 overall, while UNC-Pembroke falls to 5-11. Pembroke led for much of the first game, leading early at 15-9. Harrison had five kills to keep Catawba close at 17-14, but the Lady Braves would spurt out to a 22-15 edge. Pembroke served six aces in the opening game, three in a row at one point by Lori Sweeney (Ellington, MO). Senior Rachel LaRoche (Wilmington, DE) would help bring Catawba back with four kills and a pair of blocks to even the game at 25-25. Hope Miller (Newton, NC) had consecutive kills to give the Lady Indians a 28-26 lead, but UNCP fought off two game points to even the match at 29-29. Two errors would give Catawba the winning points. Game two had 11 ties before a run by Catawba gave the hosts a 21-17 edge. Pembroke was able to get within 21-19, but aces by Harrison and Crystal Bonner (Yadkinville, NC) kept Catawba in control. The Lady Indians pulled out to a quick 10-5 lead in the deciding game, but Pembroke rallied to tie the score at 14-14. The game was tied at 25-25 when Bonner registered consecutive kills for a 27-25 lead. Catawba would lead at 29-25 and got the match point on another kill by Bonner.
