SALISBURY, NC -- Lincoln Memorial, ranked #4 in NCAA II, got 21 points from Jake Troyli (Largo, FL) in taking a 73-54 win over host Catawba in South Atlantic Conference men’s basketball action on Saturday night at Goodman Gym. The Railsplitters improve to 8-0 overall and 2-0 in the SAC, while the Catawba Indians fall to 3-4 and 0-2.
Cam Carden (Clearwater, FL) and Vincent Bailey (Jennings, FL) each added 10 points for LMU, who outshot Catawba 49% to 31% from the field. Bailey added eight rebounds for the Railsplitters to help Lincoln Memorial control the glass by a 45-33 margin.
Keon Moore (Colerain, NC/Bertie HS) led Catawba with 15 points with Willie Gilmore (Fayetteville, NC/Trinity Christian) adding 14 points. Tyrece Little (Greenville, NC/Rose HS) pulled down 11 rebounds and blocked three shots.
LMU pulled away over the final 10 minutes of the first half as Catawba shot a dismal 12.5% (4-for-32) in the opening frame. Ten Railsplitter turnovers to just three for the Indians helped keep Catawba within a dozen at the break.
A quick 12-6 spurt to open the second half, which included a three-pointer from Carden and two from Troyli, helped Lincoln Memorial to a 41-23 edge. Catawba could never get within single digits, but did cut the lead to 10 with just under three minutes to play. A steal and layup by Brandon Armstrong (Decatur, GA) with 1:38 left iced the game, putting LMU up 66-53.
