Miller's 20 kills leads Volleyball to season sweep of WingateSALISBURY, NC – Catawba College got 20 kills and 12 digs from sophomore Hope Miller (Newton, NC) and defeated visiting Wingate in four games in South Atlantic Conference volleyball action on Wednesday night at Goodman Gym. The Indians improve to 14-6 overall and 5-1 in the SAC with the 30-23, 30-23, 21-30 and 30-16 win. Wingate falls to 12-6 and 3-4.Rachel LaRoche (Wilmington, DE) had five kills and an ace in the opening game for Catawba, while Heather Hawkins (Troutman, NC) also added five kills. Lindsay Hinson (Tallahassee, FL) had seven kills to pace Wingate in the opening game. Catawba used a five-point run to pull away from a 19-17 advantage, then scored the final four points of the games. The Lady Indians bolted to a 4-0 lead to start game two, but Wingate would rally back to take a 14-13 lead after an ace by Hinson. Catawba responded by scoring six of the next seven points to grab a 19-15 edge. LaRoche finished the game with five kills and two blocks. Wingate would dominate the third game, pulling away from an 8-7 lead to establish a 18-9 margin. Catawba got within 26-19, but could not come all the way back. Sarah Godec (Euclid, OH) recorded five kills and a block in the game for Wingate. Catawba then jumped to a 7-2 edge in the third game and got five kills in six points from Miller to give the hosts a 13-5 lead. LaRoche added consecutive kills for a 17-8 lead, then had a pair of aces in a six-point run that ballooned the lead to 26-11. Miller killed the final two points for the win. Following Miller for Catawba was LaRoche with 14 kills and Hawkins with 11. Erin Naumann (Cave Creek, AZ) recorded 28 digs, while Elizabeth Hewitt (Hickory, NC) had five blocks and three aces. Lettie Wilkes (Williamsport, MD) dished out 52 assists. Hinson had 15 kills to pace Wingate, while Shaunna Dixon (San Antonio, TX) had 11 kills and 10 digs. Godec had 43 assists and four aces.
