Men's Basketball Hammered by #9 LMU
HARROGATE, TN -- Lincoln Memorial rolled to a 98-71 win over visiting Catawba in South Atlantic Conference men's basketball action on Saturday night at Turner Arena. The ninth-ranked Railsplitters improve to 20-2 overall and 10-2 in the SAC, while the Catawba Indians fall to 5-15 and 2-10.
Vincent Bailey led the Railsplitters with 20 points with Jake Troyli adding 15. Desmond Johnson just missed a double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds. Cam Carden rounded out the double-figure scorers with 10.
Keon Moore (Colerain, NC/Bertie HS) led all scorers with 24 points. Stuart Thomson (Poynton, ENGLAND/Poynton) followed with a dozen points and Conor Strickland (Raleigh, NC/Broughton HS) dished out five assists.
Lincoln Memorial raced to a 49-27 lead at the break. The Railsplitters canned 67% (18-of-27) of their shots to just 25% (9-of-36) for Catawba. The Indians trailed 29-20 with eight minutes left in the half before LMU surged ahead. The Railsplitters had a 10-2 run to go up 39-22 then after a Catawba free throw they ran off six straight to lead 45-23.
The Railsplitters were never threatened in the second half, leading by as many as 31 points. Catawba improved to 34% shooting for the game and did better from long range, canning 8-of-20 from behind the arc. LMU held a 46-30 advantage on the boards.
