Men's Golf Hosts Outback Steakhouse Intercollegiate

PANAMA CITY BEACH, FL -- Carson-Newman edged Flagler in a two-hole playoff for the team championship in the Outback Steakhouse Intercollegiate at the Hombre Golf Club in Panama City Beach. The event was hosted by Catawba College on Monday and Tuesday.

Carson-Newman, Flagler and Lincoln Memorial all tied for first place with a two-day total 601 as the championship had to be determined via playoff. LMU was eliminated on the first hole on the par-72 course while the Eagles outshot the Saints on the second for the team trophy.

In the individual tournament, LMU’s Eric Kennedy (74, 72) and King College’s Adrian Kibsey (69, 77) tied at 146 and also went into a playoff. Kennedy eagled on the very first hole to win the individual championship and claim medalist honors.

Kennedy, Kibsey, Columbus State’s Justin Grice, Catawba’s Matt Hardman (Gettysburg, PA/Gettysburg Area) and Flagler’s Greg Mergel were the top five finishers and made the all-tournament team.

Hardman was Catawba’s top finisher as he tied for fourth and shot a 74 on both days of the tournament for a total of 148. Brad Cline (Thomasville, NC/E. Davidson/UNCG) tied for 15th at 152 (79, 73).
