Long and Bully Lift Women's Basketball to SAC Road Win
ANDERSON, SC -- Chloe Bully (Hannut, BELGIUM/Namur HS) and Nisha Long (Dallas, NC/Gaston Day HS) combined for 46 points and seven assists as Catawba picked up an important South Atlantic Conference road win against Saturday night at the Abney Athletic Center. The Lady Indians improved to 16-6 overall and 11-3 in the SAC, the Trojans fell to 9-13 and 6-8.
Up 38-29 at halftime on 56% shooting and three-pointers by Long and Bully in the first half, Catawba bettered itself in the second hitting 60% from the field as it ran away with the contest. The lady Indians showed their presence in the paint by outscoring the Trojans 38-24 and out-rebounding them 30-24.
Anderson got within three to start the half at 38-35 on two consecutive threes by Lesley Woods and Alissa Diaz. The Lady Indians were never really threatened after that as they pulled away on their shooting laurels and led by as many as 20 after a Dana Hicks (York, SC/Gaston Day HS) layup with just over three minutes left in regulation.
Catawba started out the game hot as Bully canned two bombs and Hicks scored on a layup for an 8-0 lead out of the gate. The lady Indians also forced the Trojans into 10 first-half turnovers and led 30-15 on a Hicks jumper 10 minutes into the game.
Long led all scorers with 24 and dished out four assists while Bully shot 50% from long-range and ended with 22 points and three assists. Hicks picked up 15 points and pulled down eight boards.
The Lady Indians visit Lenoir-Rhyne for a SAC contest on Wednesday, Feb. 15 at 6 pm.
