Clayton gets shutout record in Women's Soccer win over SpartanburgSALISBURY, NC – Catawba College senior Kim Clayton (Haw River, NC) became the all-time South Atlantic Conference leader in shutouts as the Lady Indians blanked visiting USC-Spartanburg 3-0 in women’s soccer action on Friday night at Frock Field. Clayton posted the 27th of her career as Catawba improves to 9-2-1, while the Lady Rifles fall to 4-7-2. Freshman Kyley Thompson (Hagerstown, NC) provided the only scoring Catawba would need, scoring in the 23rd and the 65th minutes to raise her team-leading total to 11 this season. Senior Amy Obermiller (Waxhaw, NC) scored the final goal in the 86th minute on a free kick from 25 yards out. Clayton made 10 saves in registering the record total of shutouts. She surpasses the previous record of 26 set by Presbyterian’s Emily Campbell from 1993-96. The reigning SAC Player of the Year also holds the Catawba record with 11 shutouts in a season and six consecutive shutouts during another record streak of 602 scoreless minutes.
