SALISBURY, NC -- Catawba claimed its fifth straight win with a 13-5 victory over visiting Newberry in South Atlantic Conference baseball action on Friday night at Newman Park.  Julio Zubillaga (China Grove, NC/Carson HS) had four hits and JJ Jankowski (McMurray, PA/Peters Township HS/Miami,OH) improved to 4-0 as the 23rd-ranked Catawba Indians upped its record to 11-4 overall and 6-1 in the SAC.  The Wolves fell to 8-9 and 4-3.

Jankowski limited Newberry to seven hits and three runs over six innings, while striking out 10 to remain unbeaten over five starts.  Catawba meanwhile took advantage of six Newberry errors to score five unearned runs.

Robby Scaggs (North Augusta, SC) put Newberry up early with a solo home run in the first.  Greg Lawson (Charlotte, NC/Providence HS) singled home a run with two outs to tie the game for Catawba in the second then the Indians took the lead for good in the third.

Ryan Bostian (Kannapolis, NC/S. Rowan HS/Montreat HS) led off the inning with a home run and Catawba tacked on two more in the frame as Zubillaga scored on a steal of home and Ethan Satterfield (Madison, NC/McMichael HS) singled home a run.  Zubillaga connected on a two-run homer to extend Catawba’s lead to 6-2 after four.

Newberry committed four errors in the fifth innings and Catawba scored four times.  That was enough support for Jankowski and three relievers.  Zubillaga drove in three runs and scored three times.  Bostian had a pair of hits and two RBI.  Satterfield, Lawson and Brett Underwood (Greensboro, NC/SW Guilford HS) each had two hits.

Josh McElwee (Andrews, SC) led Newberry with three hits.  He also started on the mound and suffered his first loss of the season.  In four and two-thirds innings he allowed nine hits and 10 runs, although only six were earned.  He fanned six.

Scaggs and Albert Baur (Philadelphia, PA) each had two hits for the Wolves.
