Baseball Rallies For Win Over Stillman

TUSCALOOSA, AL -- Garrett Furr (Gold Hill, NC/Mt. Pleasant HS) hit a game-tying home run in the ninth and Ethan Satterfield (Madison, NC/McMichael HS) singled home the go-ahead run as 23rd-ranked rallied for a 4-3 win over host Stillman in baseball action on Tuesday afternoon at the Tigers Baseball Field.  The Catawba Indians notch their eighth-straight win and improve to 14-4 overall.  Stillman falls to 2-11.  The Indians will play again on Tuesday, traveling to West Alabama for a night game.

Stillman limited Catawba to just three hits over the first eight innings, but after one out in the ninth Ryan Bostian (Kannapolis, NC/S. Rowan HS/Montreat) drew a walk and Julio Zubillaga (China Grove, NC/Carson HS) was hit by a pitch.  After the runners moved up on a passed ball, Furr tied the game with his three-run shot.

Following the home run, Chris Dula (Troutman, NC/S. Iredell HS) reached second on an error and with two outs Satterfield delivered his clutch single.  JJ Jankowski (McMurray, PA/Peters Township/Miami,OH) pitched the ninth for the save, getting a ground out with runners on second and third to end the game.

Graham Lawing (Huntersville, NC/NW Cabarrus/Wilkes CC) got the win in relief.  He tossed an inning and two thirds of perfect relief, including a double play ball to end the seventh with two runners on.  DJ Webb (Woodleaf, NC/W. Rowan HS) started for the Indians and pitched into the seventh.  He allowed 10 hits, but all three runs against him were unearned.  He fanned six.

Stillman had taken the lead with those three unearned runs in the sixth.  A leadoff double by Christian Ludlum and a one-out bunt single by Kameron McCreless put runners on the corners.  Webb got back-to-back strikeouts, but on the third out Joey Sheils reached on an error.  The Tigers got a two-run single from Paul Winterbottom and a RBI-single from Trent Posey to go on top.

Furr and Satterfield each had two hits for Catawba.  Brett Underwood (Greensboro, NC/SW Guilford HS) had the other hit for the Indians.  Posey had three hits for Stillman, who collected 13 hits, but stranded 11 runners.
