Jankowski Fans 16 as Baseball Grabs 15-2 Win Over Anderson

SALISBURY, NC -- Host Catawba erupted for 11 runs in the fourth inning and went on take a 15-2 victory over Anderson in South Atlantic Conference baseball action on Friday night at Newman Park.  The 23rd-ranked Catawba Indians also got 16 strikeouts from JJ Jankowski (McMurray, PA/Peters Township HS/Miami,OH) in improving to 16-5 overall and 9-1 in the SAC.  The Trojans fall to 6-17 and 2-8.

The 16 strikeouts by Jankowski, who improved to 5-0, is the third most by an Indian hurler.  It was just two off Jerry Maye’s school mark of 18 and one behind Brian Boltz.  Thomas Wilson had also fanned 16 in a game.  Jankowski went eight innings and allowed two runs (one earned) off only three hits.  He walked none, but did hit a pair of batters.

With the game tied at 1-1 in the fourth, Catawba got Jankowski all the runs he would need.  Brett Underwood (Greensboro, NC/SW Guilford HS) was hit to force in the go-ahead run then Ryan Bostian (Kannapolis, NC/S. Rowan HS/Montreat) cleared the bases with a triple.

Ethan Satterfield (Madison, NC/McMichael HS) connected on a three-run homer to up the margin to 9-1.  Cameron Beard (Conover, NC/Bunker Hill HS) and Greg Lawson (Charlotte, NC/Providence HS) followed with solo shots as the Indians went back-to-back-to-back to tie a school record with three straight homers.

Jankowski was the star after that.  He fanned at least two batters in every inning except the third where he failed to record a strikeout.  He struck out the side in the sixth and seventh innings.

Satterfield hit for the cycle, colleting four hits and three RBI.  Bostian drove in three runs on three hits.  Beard and Julio Zubillaga (China Grove, NC/Carson HS) also had three hits for Catawba.

Brett Cash (Anderson, SC) had one of the four Anderson hits.  It was a solo homer in the third that tied the game.  TJ Estes (Rock Hill, SC) took the loss for the Trojans.  Only five of the 12 runs he allowed were earned.
