Baseball Takes Down Kutztown 7-3 Behind a Pair of Dula Homers
SALISBURY, NC -- Chris Dula (Troutman, NC/S. Iredell HS) hit a pair of home runs to help 15th-ranked to a 7-3 win over visiting Kutztown in baseball action on Monday afternoon night at Newman Park. The Catawba Indians improve to 19-5 with their 13th win in 14 outings. The Bears fall to 7-3.
Kutztown led after an inning. Cody Montz (Schuylkill Haven, PA) led off with a walk, stole second and scored on a double by Shayne Houck (Boyertown, PA). Catawba struck for two in the second to take the lead for good. Cameron Beard (Claremont, NC/Bunker Hill HS) singled home the tying run and Brett Underwood (Greensboro, NC/SW Guilford HS) brought home the go-ahead run on a sacrifice fly.
Dula hit his first home run to lead off the third and Garrett Furr (Gold Hill, NC/Mt. Pleasant HS) added his team-leading seventh home run a batter later as the Indians upped the lead to 4-1. The Bears cut the lead to a single run in the fifth on a two-run homer by Matt Albaugh (Hatfield, PA), but the Catawba bullpen kept Kutztown off the board from there.
Catawba answered the two Kutztown runs with a pair of its own in the fifth. The Indians loaded the bases with no outs and got a sacrifice fly from Ethan Satterfield (Madison, NC/McMichael HS) and a RBI single from JJ Jankowski (McMurray, PA/Peters Township HS/Miami,OH). Dula added a second solo home run in the sixth to cap the scoring.
After the home run by Kutztown, Clay Watson (Lexington, NC/N. Davidson HS) threw an inning and two-thirds of scoreless relief and was followed by an inning and two-thirds from Ryan McClintock (Matthew, NC/Providence HS). Graham Lawing (Huntersville, NC/NW Cabarrus HS/Wilkes CC) struck out the only batter he faced and Craig Brooks (Monroe, NC/Parkwood HS) recorded the final three outs.
Dula finished with three hits on the day and scored three times. Beard and Julio Zubillaga (China Grove, NC/Carson HS) each added a pair of hits. Seven Catawba players joined in on the dozen hits produced by Tribe bats. Albaugh had two hits and two RBI for Kutztown.
