Women's Lacrosse Falls to Edinboro
SALISBURY, NC -- Shannon Rorich (Munroe Falls, OH) scored four goals and handed out a pair of assists to help visiting Edinboro to a 19-4 win over Catawba in women’s lacrosse action on Friday afternoon at Shuford Stadium. The win improves the Fighting Scots to 2-0, while the Catawba Indians fall to 1-4.
After trailing 4-1 early, Catawba got consecutive goals by Ebony Mills (Harrison, ME/Oxford Hills HS/Mount Ida) to get within a single goal, but Dominique Young (Hamburg, NY) and Alexandria DeReamer (Waterloo, NY) each scored twice to help Edinboro begin to pull away.
The Fighting Scots scored eight straight goals in the run, which ended on another goal by Mills with 3:22 to go in the half. Edinboro scored all seven goals in the second half.
DeReamer and Abbey Mackessy (Hudson, OH) each scored three goals for Edinboro. The Fighting Scots held a 29-10 edge in shots and doubled up Catawba 22-11 on ground balls. Edinboro also won 17 of 25 draw controls with Rorich taking five.
Mills led Catawba with three goals. Kortney Kavanagh (Shoreham, NY/Shoreham-Wading River HS) had the other tally for the Lady Indians. Mills also won four draw controls, while Haley Register (Simpsonville, SC/Mauldin HS) recorded seven saves in goal.
