Lomascolo Named SAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week
ROCK HILL, SC -- On the heels of his one-hitter against Brevard, Catawba junior pitcher Nick Lomascolo (Mooresville, NC/Lake Norman HS) has been named the South Atlantic Conference Pitcher of the Week. Carson-Newman first baseman Kyle Koeneman earned Player of the Week honors as announced by the league office on Monday.
Lomascolo helped keep Catawba atop the league standings by throwing seven shutout innings in tossing a complete-game against Brevard on Saturday in a 1-0 Indian victory. The junior lefty was nearly untouchable, allowing just one hit and one walk while striking out seven.
The outing lowered Lomascolo’s ERA to 3.48, and he now has 43 strikeouts in 44 innings this season.
Koeneman hit .438 as the Eagles went 4-1 last week. The senior hit three home runs – including a game-winning two-run shot against North Georgia in the ninth inning and a game-tying blast in the ninth inning of a game versus Mars Hill that C-N went on to win in 11 innings.
Koeneman’s week also included seven walks, seven runs and 10 RBI. Over the five games, he had an on-base percentage of .609.
