Thompson's second buzzer-beater gives Women's Soccer 1-0 win at Wingate

WINGATE, NC Catawba College freshman forward Kyley Thompson (Hagerstown, MD) scored a goal with seven seconds remaining in overtime to give the Lady Indians a 1-0 South Atlantic Conference women's soccer victory over Wingate University on Wednesday afternoon at the Wingate University soccer facility. With the win, Catawba creates a four-way tie for first in the South Atlantic Conference. The Lady Indians are 10-2-1 overall and 4-1-1 in the SAC, while Wingate falls to 9-3-2 and, 1-3-2.It was the second buzzer-beater for Thompson this season as she scored with eight seconds remaining in regulation to defeat Longwood 1-0 at Catawba on September 11. Catawba freshman midfielder Maran Bock (Avondale, AZ) fed Thompson a perfect ball in the waning moments. Thompson beat her defender one-on-one and slipped the ball between the left post and Wingate University senior goalkeeper Elizabeth Rogers (Raleigh, NC). The Indians outshot the Bulldogs 15-3, with Rogers recording 11 saves in the Wingate net. Catawba senior goalkeeper Kim Clayton notched three saves. Clayton has seven shutouts this season and a South Atlantic Conference-record 28 shutouts for her career.
