Baseball Claims 9-1 Win at Barton
WILSON, NC -- Catawba rolled to a ninth straight win, defeating host Barton 9-1 in baseball action on Tuesday afternoon at Nixon Field. The fifth-ranked Catawba Indians hit three home runs in upping its mark to 23-5 overall. The Bulldogs fall to 8-18.
Catawba got five strong innings from Nate King (Vancouver, WA/Skyview HS/NC State) as the senior improved to 2-1. He allowed a run off four hits and a walk with five strikeouts. Graham Lawing (Huntersville, NC/NW Cabarrus HS/Wilkes CC) picked up his first save with three shutout innings of relief. He surrendered two hits and fanned one.
The Indians went on top in the second inning. Ethan Satterfield (Madison, NC/McMichael HS) led off with a single and Cameron Beard (Conover, NC/Bunker Hill HS) doubled him home. Brett Underwood (Greensboro, NC/SW Guilford HS) added a RBI single and later scored on a passed ball for a 3-0 lead. Garrett Furr (Gold Hill, NC/Mt. Pleasant HS) led off the third with a home run to up the margin to 4-0.
Beard delivered two more RBI in the fifth, finishing the game with three hits and three RBI. Bostian led off the sixth with a home run to give Catawba a 7-1 edge and Danny Parisi (Shirley, NY/Longwood HS) capped the scoring with a two-run homer in the ninth.
Furr and Julio Zubillaga (China Grove, NC/Carson HS) had two hits apiece for the Indians. Clay Watson (Lexington, NC/N. Davidson HS) also tossed a scoreless inning of relief with one strikeout.
Chris Rawlings had two hits and drove in the lone Barton run. Avery Harper also had a pair of hits for the Bulldogs.
