Cross Country Announces Six Committments for 2012
SALISBURY, NC -- Catawba College cross country coach, Bill Haggerty, has announced six commitments for the upcoming 2012 cross country season. Joining Catawba for next season on the women’s team is Erica Boles (King, NC/West Stokes HS) and DeAnna Hedgepeth (Wytheville, VA/George Wythe HS). Committing for the men’s team are Alex Griffin (Monroe, NC/Piedmont HS), Nathan Hatley (King, NC/West Stokes HS), Matthew Jordan-Steele (Lexington, NC/North Davidson HS) and Kyle Mechling (Quinton, VA/New Kent HS.
Boles was a four-time all-conference performer, qualifying for the State Championships all four years. She was a three-time all-region runner. Boles was team MVP at West Stokes and set school record for two miles at 12:16. Her best 5k time was 19:25.
Hedgepeth was a two-time district champion at Wythe High School. She ran in the State Championships three times and finished 11th as a junior. As a Senior she finished third in the region with a 20:36.
Griffin was a two-time team captain at Piedmont. He earned all-conference honors as a junior and was the Runner of the Year as a senior.
Hatley was a three-time team MVP at West Stokes. He was named All-State, all-conference and all-region. In track, Hatley was conference champion in the 3200 and added all-conference honors in the 1600 and 4x800 relay.
Jordan-Steele earned the Golden Shoe Award at North Davidson. He was an all-county selection and had been named Freshman of the year.
Mechling served as captain of the cross country, tennis and swim teams at New Kent.
