Defense Tops Offense in Spring Football Scrimmage
SALISBURY, NC -- Catawba conducted its 2012 Spring Football Game on Saturday morning at Shuford Stadium and Kirkland Field with the Defense taking a dominating 52-18 victory over the Offense. The scrimmage was conducted with points being award to each unit for certain plays.
Highlighting the defense win was Mark McDaniel’s 50-yard interception return for a score which produced 10 points for the unit. Tevin Carr had two picks and nearly returned one from eight-yards deep in the end zone for a score.
Damein Lee recorded two and half sacks with Gabriel Evans adding one and a half. Richard Miller was in on two sacks, while Cory Johnson and Jason Taylor each had a sack.
On offense, BJ Sherrill led the ground game with 37 yards on nine carries. Bobby Morrison added 32 yards on 11 touches, while Channon Crawford totaled 26 yards on 11 attempts.
Jacob Charest completed 12-of-21 passes for 78 yards and did not throw an interception. Chance Green provided the long play for the offense with a 41-yard pass to Joe Watson. Watson had two catches on the day. Chase Kellum and Tyler Hamilton also made two grabs.
