Women's Lacrosse Drops 26-6 Decision to #12 Florida Southern
SALISBURY, NC – Florida Southern claimed a 26-6 win over host Catawba in women’s lacrosse action on Sunday afternoon at Shuford Stadium. The 12th-ranked Moccasins improve to 8-3, while the Catawba Indians fall to 2-7.
Fourteen different players had goals for Florida Southern, which enjoyed a 44-15 advantage in shots. Rachel Ziter had four goals for the Moccasins, while Alexa Caffrey, Caitlin Chase, Katie Ferree and Megan Asper all added three goals. Ebony Mills (Harrison, ME/Oxford Hills HS/Mount Ida) and Kortney Kavanagh (Shoreham, NC/Shoreham-Wading River HS) each had two goals for Catawba.
The Moccasins netted four goals in the opening five minutes and led 6-0 after consecutive goals by Ziter with 22:55 on the clock. Mills sandwiched a pair of goals around a third tally from Ziter for a 7-2 score midway through the half. FSC went on to lead 15-5 at the break and cruised in the second half.
Mills added nine draw controls and four ground balls for the Lady Indians. Haley Register (Simpsonville, SC/Mauldin HS) recorded 11 saves in goal for Catawba. Chase added five assists to her three goals for FSC. Asper won eight draw controls. Lindsay Holdway played the final 54 minutes in goal and had three saves.
