SALISBURY, NC -- The Catawba softball team is set to earn its first appearance in the NCAA II Softball Tournament.  The Catawba Indians stand sixth in the most recent regional poll with play completed among all teams in the region.  Eight teams make the field from the Southeast Region with the official selection being made on Monday morning.

The softball regional, held May 3-6, is split into two four-team double elimination tournaments with the two winners meeting the following weekend in a best two-of-three series to determine who advances to the Softball World Series in Louisville, KY.

As it falls now, Catawba would face SAC-foe Lenoir-Rhyne in its opening game which would be held at Armstrong Atlantic in Savannah, GA.  Lenoir-Rhyne and Columbus State earned automatic spots by winning their conference tournaments.  King claimed the Conference Carolinas bid which would knock #8 USC Aiken out of the tournament.
