Women's Soccer Loses Opener in OT
ST. AUGUSTINE’S, FL -- Catawba dropped its season-opening women’s soccer match 1-0 in overtime against Palm Beach Atlantic. The match was part of the Flagler Kick-Off Tournament held at Saints Field on Thursday night. It was the opener for both teams.
Catawba held a statistical advantage during regulation play. The Lady Indians held a 12-9 edge in shots and was awarded seven corners to just one for Palm Beach Atlantic. The Sailfish capitalized on a loose ball five minutes into overtime to score the lone goal. Carolyn Simon got the tally.
Athena Bless (Asheboro, NC/SW Randolph HS) and Mary Kirkman (Burlington, NC/Williams HS) each had a pair of shots on goal for Catawba. Freshman Angelica Pawlowski (Las Vegas, NV/Bishop Gorman HS) recorded four saves. The Lady Indians will take on host Flagler in its next match on Saturday at 11 am.
