Women's Soccer Suffers Second OT Loss to Open Season

ST. AUGUSTINE’S, FL -- Catawba suffered its second straight overtime loss to begin the 2012 women's soccer season, falling 2-1 to host Flagler at the Flagler Kick-Off Tournament on Saturday morning at Saints Field.  The Catawba Indians fall to 0-2, while the Saints improve to 2-0.

Flagler went on top midway through the opening half when Jessica Jagielski was able to knock home a cross that just eluded Catawba keeper Angelica Pawlowski (Las Vegas, NV/Bishop Gorman HS).  Catawba got some momentum late in the opening half then punched home the equalizer just five minutes into the second half.

Sophomore Taylor Arrowood (Matthews, NC/Weddington, NC) got the first Catawba goal of the year when she chipped the keeper after taking a pass from Athena Bless (Asheboro, NC/SW Randolph HS).  Neither team could break through for the rest of regulation, but late in the first overtime period Flagler was able to net the winner.  Jagielski notched her second of the match, just tucking a shot inside the right post at the 98:14 mark.

Flagler had all six shots in the extra time and held a 21-12 edge during the match.  The Saints took nine corners to six for the Lady Indians.  Pawlowski kept Catawba in the match, recording 11 saves.  Casey Merson had four saves for Flagler.
