Women's Soccer Dominates Barton in Shutout Win
SALISBURY, NC -- Catawba notched its second straight shutout with a 2-0 win over visiting Barton in women's soccer action on Saturday afternoon at the Frock Field. The Catawba Indians improve to 2-2, while the Bulldogs fall to 1-2.
The Lady Indians dominated the game offensively, out-shooting Barton 28-0. Bulldog keeper Carson Moore helped keep Catawba off the board until late in the first half when Taylor Arrowood (Matthews, NC/Weddington HS) broke the ice off a feed from Amy Iwanicki (Calgary, Alberta, CANADA/St. Francis HS/Tenn-Martin) with just two and half minutes remaining in the opening half.
Iwanicki gave the Lady Indians a two-goal cushion in the 55th minute as she knocked in a rebound off a shot by Mary Kirkman (Burlington, NC/Williams HS) that was saved by Moore. Juliana Conte (Hampton, Ontario, CANADA/Holy Trinity Catholic) also assisted on the goal as she played a cross into Kirkman.
Moore posted 16 saves in net for Barton. Angelica Pawlowski (Las Vegas, NV/Bishop Gorman HS) was untested in posting her first solo shutout. Catawba will return to action on Thursday, traveling to Queens for a 6 p.m. contest.
