Bonilla Scores Twice in Final 10 Minutes to Give Men's Soccer 3-2 Win Over Barton
SALISBURY, NC -- Catawba rallied with two goals in the final 10 minutes following a lightning delay to steal a 3-2 win over visiting Barton in men’s soccer action on Saturday afternoon at Frock Field. Freshman Kenny Bonilla (Salisbury, NC/Salisbury HS) scored the two late tallies to help the Catawba Indians even their mark at 2-2. The Bulldogs fall to 1-3.
Barton led 2-1 with just 10 minutes remaining when the match was halted for weather. After about a 45-minute delay, Catawba leveled the match in the 83rd when Bonilla scored on a pass from Carson Smith (Mooresville, NC/Mooresville HS). Less than two minutes later, Bonilla put in the game winner which was assisted by Eion Duffy (Knocknacarra, IRELAND/Galway U.) and Nick Radosavljevic (Oak Park, IL/Oak Park & River Forest HS).
The Bulldogs twice led by a goal in the match. In the 21st minute, Archer Bane headed in a corner kick from Richard Worthy for the early lead. Radosavljevic equalized in the 28th minute with help from Duffy. Nick Ahlquist put Barton ahead once again the 66th minute, but Catawba answered with the dramatic victory on the two strikes from Bonilla.
