Men's Soccer Plays to Third Straight League Tie

SALISBURY, NC -- Catawba and Newberry played to a 1-1 tie in South Atlantic Conference men's soccer action on Saturday afternoon at Frock Field.  The tie is the third straight for the Catawba Indians who now stand at 3-2-3 overall and 0-0-3 in the SAC.  The Wolves are now 2-3-1 and 0-1-1.

Luke Kooyman (Salt Lake City, UT/Highland HS) got the Indians off to a quick start in just the sixth minute as he knocked in a cross from Ezra Ntirugelegwa (Durham, NC/Jordan HS).  It marked Kooyman’s second goal in as many matches.

Newberry struck for the equalizer 10 minutes before the half.  Julian Feneberg was able to collect a ball at the top of the box and find the back of the net from about 18 yards out.

Catawba dominated the shot total after the break, holding an 18-3 edge, but could not find a go-ahead goal.  Patrick Sweatt registered a dozen saves in goal for Newberry.  Frankie Cardelle (Salisbury, NC/Salisbury HS) made a pair of saves for Catawba.

Catawba will return to Frock Field on Wednesday as it hosts Chowan at 5 p.m.
