Four earn All-SAC Volleyball honors; Ashley named Co-Coach of the Year

Catawba College placed four players on the 2002 All-South Atlantic Conference teams in volleyball. Sophomore hitter Hope Miller (Newton, NC) and senior setter Lettie Wilkes (Williamsport, MD) were first team selections, while senior Rachel LaRoche (Wilmington, DE) and sophomore Crissi Harrison (Hickory, NC) earned second team honors. Ginger Ashley was named SAC Co-Coach of the Year, marking the fourth time Ashley has earned the honor. Miller leads the team and ranks fourth in the SAC with over 3.5 kills per game and stands second with 4.6 digs a game. For the season, she has totaled 331 kills and 438 digs, while adding 24 aces and 28 blocks. Wilkes ranks second in the league with 984 assists (10.2 per game) and has added 262 digs and 27 aces. LaRoche earned second team honors for the second year in a row. She is second on the team at just over three kills a game, totaling 316 on the season. She also has 152 digs, 58 blocks and 24 aces. Harrison has hit at nearly 34% for the year, recording 279 kills with 38 aces and 886 blocks. Catawba shared the 2002 SAC Championship, finishing the regular season with a 13-1 mark. The Lady Indians are the top seed for the league tournament with the winner earning a spot in the NCAA II Regional. Catawba stands 22-6 overall this season.
