Kruglov and Holmberg Take Top Honors in Swimming Pentathlon

Sophomore Katia Kruglov and freshman Sebastian Holmberg took top honors as the Catawba Pentathlon intersquad meet.  Kruglov won the 100 back and 100 IM events on the women’s side, while Holmberg had wins in the 100 back, 100 fly and 100 IM.

Holmberg had three school-record times.  In winning the 100 IM in a time of 53.96, he set a record that had been set in an earlier heat by fellow freshman Jevgenji Gamper, who went a time of 55.21.  Holmberg swam the first 50 of the 100 back in a new mark of 24.64 and the opening 50 of the 100 fly in a 22.93.

Kruglov also set a mark in the 100 IM that had been broken in a previous heat by freshman Nadine Brockmann.  Brockmann had posted a time of 1:04.20 before Kruglov posted a 1:03.24.

Brockman won the 100 free and 100 fly events and was second to Kruglov in the 100 IM.  Kruglov was second in the 100 free and 100 fly.  Janin Kassner won the women’s 100 breast.  Other winners for the men were Niles Zatterstrom in the 100 free and Gamper in the 100 breast.
