Women's Soccer Falls in Heartbreaker to #11 Lenoir-Rhyne in SAC Semifinal

ROCK HILL, NC -- Garcelle Alequine scored less than a minute into the second overtime period to give 11th-ranked Lenoir-Rhyne a 3-2 win over Catawba in a semifinal match of the 2012 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Women's Soccer Tournament on Friday afternoon at Manchester Meadows.  It marked the second time this season that the top-seeded Bears, now 15-1-2, had topped the Catawba Indians in extra time.  The Lady Indians, who have no seniors and started seven freshman most of the year, end their season at 13-7.

After a scoreless first half, Catawba jumped out on top on a goal by Juliana Conte (Hampton, Ontario, CANADA/Holy Trinity Catholic HS) in the 50th minute.  Conte headed home a corner kick from Taylor Arrowood (Matthew, NC/Weddington HS).  The Lady Indians jumped ahead by two goals when Anna Toole (Greenville, SC/Mann HS) curled in a 30-yard free kick with just under 20 minutes to play.

Lenoir-Rhyne rallied back, tying the game with a pair goals in a four-minute span.  Alequine scored her first goal in the 79th minute then Hanna Kiebel converted a penalty kick in the 83rd minute.  After a scoreless first overtime, Alequine netted the game-winner 44 seconds into the second extra period.

Catawba keeper Bethany Davis (Salisbury, MD/Parkside HS) made 11 saves, while L-R's Caitlin Scruggs stopped three shots.
