Women's Soccer falls to North Florida in Southeast RegionalJACKSONVILLE, FL – North Florida earned its 21st straight home win and defeated visiting Catawba 2-0 in the first round of the NCAA II Southeast Region Women’s Soccer Tournament on Wednesday night. The Lady Ospreys move to 16-3-1 on the year and advance to face top-seeded Kennesaw for the Southeast Championship on Saturday afternoon. Catawba ends its record-breaking season at 15-3-1. The teams battled through a scoreless draw for a half until the Lady Ospreys broke the ice off a corner kick at the 58:04 mark. Cecily Noblit scored the goal. Catawba had a chance to even the score, but freshman Maran Bock (Avondale, AZ) missed a penalty kick in the 70th minute. Laura Hamilton would score an insurance goal for North Florida with just over three minutes to play. North Florida held a 16-5 edge in total shots as Catawba played without its top scorer, SAC Freshman of the Year, Kyley Thompson (Hagerstown, MD), who broke her collar bone in the Lady Indians’ SAC Tournament semifinal win over Wingate last Saturday. Thompson had scored 14 goals in 16 matches. Catawba set a school record this season with 15 wins and had its record streak of nine straight wins snapped tonight. Catawba senior goalkeeper Kim Clayton (Haw River, NC) ended her stellar career that saw her set nearly all of the Lady Indian records. She set a school and league mark with 32 career shutouts and also set Catawba career marks for minutes played (6,115) and goals against average (0.91). #3 CATAWBA (15-3-1) 0 0 -- 0 #2 NORTH FLORIDA (16-3-1) 0 2 -- 2 SCORING SUMMARY NF - 58:04 – Cecily Noblit (Dana Hemke, Shauna Kruger) NF – 86:44 – Laura Hamilton Shots at Goal: North Florida 16, Catawba 5 Corner Kicks: North Florida 7, Catawba 2 Goalkeeper Saves: North Florida – Haley Epsteen 1 Catawba - Kim Clayton 8 Offsides: North Florida 2, Catawba 0 ATT: 205 #######
