BREVARD, NC -- Catawba fell to third-seeded Lincoln Memorial in the first round of the 2012 Food Lions South Atlantic Conference Volleyball Tournament on Friday night at Boshamer Gym on the campus of Brevard College.  The Lady Railsplitters improve to 21-12 and advance to a Saturday semifinal vs. Tusculum.  The Catawba Indians end their season at 12-15.

Kaitlyn Whitmer (Ferrum, VA/Franklin Co. HS) paced Catawba with 24 kills with Carson Brewer (Raleigh, NC/Middle Creek HS/Cape Fear CC) adding 18 kills, eight digs and four blocks.  Libero Jenny Young (Roanoke, VA/Henry HS) collected 28 digs, while setter Jordan Raye (Boonville, NC/Starmount HS) handed out 37 assists and posted 11 digs.  Alli Parrish (Zebulon, NC/Smithfield-Selma HS) recorded 15 digs and had 14 assists.

Blair Fowler led five LMU players with double digits in kills with 19.  Kaitlin Walton and Jazzy Oates each had 11 kills, while Allison Beavers and Jennifer Drumm each posted 10 kills.  Drumm collected 18 digs with Fowler adding 16 digs and four blocks.

Fowler, Drumm and Oates provided kills early in the final set to give LMU a 4-2 edge.  Brewer pulled Catawba with 7-6, but Walton started a five-point run by the Lady Splitters that pushed the score to 12-6.  The Lady Indians fought back to within 13-11 after a kill from Whitmer and an ace by Brewer, but after a service error, Fowler killed off match point.

Whitmer had a kill and ace and Brewer three kills in a seven-point run at the start of the first set to put the Lady Indians up 8-3. LMU rallied back and pulled even at 11-all.  The set stayed tight from there with Fowler giving LMU some breathing room at 21-18 on a kill.  A block from Brewer cut the Catawba deficit to 23-22, but Oates had a kill and a combo block to end the set.

Catawba surged ahead again in set two.  A block from Whitmer had the Lady Indians up 9-3 and three straight kills from the senior made it 12-4.  Whitmer's ace made it 18-8.  LMU pulled within 20-13, but Whitmer killed off Catawba last three points of the set.

Walton and Oates had consecutive kills to help LMU to a 16-12 lead in set three.  Two kills from Whitmer had Catawba within three points at 17-14.  Down 19-14, Catawba scored four straight, including an ace from Raye to pull within 19-18.  After a service error, Oates served an ace and Beavers and Fowler followed with kills to put LMU up 23-18.  Fowler killed off set point.

Catawba forced the winner-take-all set with another early push.  Down 7-4, Whitmer started a 9-1 Catawba run that saw Brewer record three kills and two blocks.  Young capped the stretch with consecutive aces and a 13-8 lead.  Whitmer's ace upped the lead to 21-14 and she would kill off the set point.
