Bully Scores 17 in Women's Basketball's Loss at #5 USC Aiken
AIKEN, SC -- USC Aiken, ranked fifth in NCAA II, claimed a 78-47 win over visiting Catawba in women’s basketball action on Saturday night at the USCA Convocation Center. The Pacers improve to 3-0, while the Catawba Indians fall to 0-2.
Catawba held one brief lead at 3-2 following a three-pointer by Elizabeth Merritt (Lexington, NC/E. Davidson HS), but the Pacers eased away after that. A 9-0 run, capped on a jumper by Kayla Harris, put USCA on top 18-8. Chloe Bully (Hannut, BELGIUM/KOL Landen) trimmed the deficit to 18-11, but a 7-2 run by the Pacers upped the lead to 25-13. Aiken led 36-21 at the break and never let Catawba back in the game,
Bully tallied 17 points to lead the Lady Indians, hitting on 4-of-6 from behind the arc. Merritt added nine points. Catawba shot just 28% for the game, while the Pacers hit on 51% and made 10 three-pointers. USCA held a +10 margin on the boards and committed seven less turnovers.
Harris and Danielle Tarailo each had 15 for USC Aiken. Mackenzie Reese added a dozen. Both Harris and Reese grabbed seven rebounds, while Brittany Hill pulled down eight boards.
Catawba will be on the road Tuesday at Livingstone for a 6 p.m. tip-off.
