Catawba Volleyball Signs Seven New Recruits for 2013
Catawba College Head volleyball coach Ginger Hamric is excited to announce the signing of seven student athletes during the early signing period.
"We are all excited about each of these great student athletes choosing Catawba to further there volleyball career. Each of them will contribute to our program in their own special way."
Caitlin Turner (5'10 Setter/RS/DS - Va., Hickory High School)
Caitlin is a utility player from Chesapeake, Va. and a very versatile and great teammate. She really impressed us this summer at camp. We are looking for her to give us depth in the setting position and in the back court. She can set, hit and defend and will help us out in several areas. She plays club with Beach Elite and has played several positions with them.
Erin Morant (6'0 MB/OH - Va., Liberty High School)
Erin is a hitter from Bealeton, Va. who is just scratching the surface of where she is headed. Erin is very athletic and can touch 10'. She is very flexible and is a good blocker. She will also give us a lot of depth across the front row. She is a great athlete that touches 10' and is very coachable. Having some high performance training, Erin will continue to be an outstanding player.
Gabrielle "Bri" Howard (6'1 MB/RS - N.C., Southern Alamance High School)
Bri is a hitter from Graham, N.C. who is another one of those players that has a lot of upside. She is a big body and very athletic. She is a good blocker and will be a contributor in the middle position. She has great jumping ability that will make her a player to deal with.
McKenzie Garrison (5'10 OH - N.C., Maiden High School)
McKenzie is an all-around solid player. She will have a major impact on our serve receive and front row play. A great player with a calm confidence that's contagious. McKenzie is an outside hitter and a 6 rotation player that will contribute to the overall ball control of our team. She plays club with Carolina Union and will come in with lots of high level club experience.
Audrey Hoffman (6'0 MB/RS - Ga., Mill Creek High School)
Audrey has a quiet demeanor about her, until you see her approach in to hit. She has a great attitude and is ready to do whatever she can to be a contributor. Audrey, a middle hitter from Dacula, Ga., will add more height and versatility to our team.
Evan Schultz (5'11 MB/OH - Monacan High School)
Evan is a hitter from Richmond, Va. Evan is a dynamic athlete and fierce competitor. She plays club with Richmond Volleyball Club (RVC) and has benefited from some great coaching. Evan is the perfect example of a competitive athlete. She works hard and is a fighter. Evan will bring experience across the front row and will help with our team competitiveness.
Meredith Furr (5'6 Setter/DS - N.C., Cox Mill High School)
Meredith is a great Setter. We are very excited about her giving us depth in the setting position. She is a very hard worker and don't let her size fool you. She works so hard you overlook it! Meredith is a setter with great heart and work ethic. Her excitement and love for the game will make her an asset to our team.
"As a Coaching staff we could go on for days about each of these girls. We just can't wait for them to get Catawba! Not only are they great volleyball players but they are all academically gifted and each take the class room very seriously. It's good to have athletes but even better to have student athletes."
